Educator Certification Program
Region 5 TCP is the program for you!
The Region 5 Teacher Certification Program was approved by the State Board for Educator Certification July 27, 2007. Its focus is on the core content areas and the critical shortage certificates. The TCP has evolved and flourished throughout the years by adjusting to current legislative requirements and continually revising the curriculum to meet the needs of today’s beginning teachers.
One of the benefits of TCP interns is that they are paid as the teacher-of-record with full benefits and full-time teacher salary while they are participants in the program and earning their standard teaching certificate.
The Region 5 TCP Passing Test Rates for the last three years. The Texas Education Agency “Acceptable Pass Rate” for TExES exams is 80%.
Region 5 partners with employing districts to provide a strong support system for TCP teachers. Beginning teachers have a variety of needs during their transition into the teaching profession. Support for beginning teachers is provided through campus mentoring, monthly professional development meetings, electronic communication and phone correspondence. The Region 5 TCP staff is committed to responding quickly to our TCP interns.
Region 5 TCP interns benefit from the connections, contacts and relationships they build while going through our program. The trainers presenting the face-to-face, state-mandated curriculum are experts in their field who also provide trainings for districts. TCP interns receive the latest information from the Texas Education Agency as well as develop a lasting contact for future assistance.
To accommodate the non-traditional individual in today’s fast-paced society, TCP interns receive both online coursework as well as face-to-face training. Administrators and former TCP teachers collectively agree that our blended training sets apart TCP teachers from other alternatively certified beginning teachers. Face-to-face trainings offer interns opportunities to learn effective teaching strategies as Region 5 consultants model for them and provide timely feedback to their questions. Online coursework allows individuals to work within their own timeframe. Face-to-face instruction allows interns to build relationships with peers, developing a support network.
The Region 5 Teacher Certification Program’s curriculum is based on state standards established by the State Board for Educator Certification and are aligned with the state board exams, the state Professional Development and Appraisal System Framework, as well as the state curriculum established for Texas public schools (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills-TEKS). This ensures that teachers are prepared with current information which is relevant to them and to their teaching profession.
“I am a very ‘hands-on’ type of learner; therefore, the face-to-face training we received really helped me to have a better understanding of the material being presented.”
“The speakers that were brought in provided valuable information, because they were also the ‘experts’ in their field who provided professional development to all of the teachers in the districts within our region.”
“Classroom management and state law trainings helped me the most. Also, all of the Special Education trainings helped prepare me for situations such as inclusion, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.”
“We were thoroughly trained in classroom management, Special Education requirements, state law, and instructional strategies. Thank you so much for including Special Education training in with our content training! It has helped so much when our district began implementing inclusion into the regular education classes.”
Region 5 ESC will devote its operation to the purpose of helping each school educate its students so as to assure their success in our society.
Per HB 462, resources and services provided by Region 5 ESC are aligned with, and designed to support, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills(TEKS) adopted by the State Board of Education.
